Perhaps its just due to the fact that I work from home and rarely leave long enough to need a radar detector, but I had not realized that they have become so sophisticated. Nonetheless, these two new detectors from Cobra have me almost wishing I still had a commute. These new models are actually just part of a larger group of six, however these are the premium models, they are the XRS 9960G and the XRS R10G. Both of them are equipped with Cobra’s newly announced AURA (Advanced Universal Road Alert), which will help you avoid everything from accidents, to red light cameras, speed camera and of course radars. Additionally, they will also alert you of an upcoming emergency vehicle so you can actually move out of the way ahead of time, and can be set to monitor your speed and alert you, just in case your foot gets a little heavy on the gas pedal.
These models also both have a USB flash drive that you use to get updates to the database, and those updates come for free with both of these models. The updates can be done at any time by visiting a website and plugging in the flash drive. The database is also updated twice a day, which means you should have no problem staying ahead of new cameras almost as soon as they go up.
As for pricing and availability, the XRS 9960G is retailing for $389 and the XRS R10G is retailing for $439, they will both be available beginning in the Spring of 2009. Additionally the remaining four models in this lineup can be purchase for anywhere from $209 up to $339. In the meantime, hit the gallery below to check out some images.
