Hands on Shure’s SE115 in-ear headphones

Shure just showed us their new products announced at CES. We didn’t just see the SE115 headphones behind glass, we got to test it out. The SE115 is a second generation product with dynamic drivers. What does that mean? You get more low end which means better bass. These in-ear headphones isolate sound. The earbuds are like ear plug-style foam. This is different from their SE110 because the SE115′s foam is less porous, which means better sound. Now, you won’t be able to hear the outside world very well, but for noisy rooms or trains, this is a good idea.

Testing them out, the SE115 had some great sound. They blew away my $20 Sony Fontopias. The sound was clean, the bass was very good, and I could hardly hear anything outside of the music.

The SE115 has been been in development for a year. Since, Shure wants the product to be a hit, they’ve decided to do colors. There is a burgundy, pink, black, and blue model. Each set comes with a modular cable and a fit-kit so you can get the right fitting earbuds. The modular cable is great because you can adjust the cable length depending on where you place your player or phone. If you have a phone, there is the Shure MPA-3C — the MPA stands for “music phone adapter.”

Expect a Spring release and it will cost $99. You can also see the already available SE530 in the photo gallery, it is the larger, $449 model (which sounded fantastic, by the way).
