Circuit City officially announced today that they are moving to request the court’s permission to liquidate. The company was still employing over 30,000 in the US and hopefully, many of them saw the writing on the wall. Today’s announcement isn’t that much of a surprise.
The company filed for bankruptcy protection back in November of last year. In December, the company listed 567 stores in the US and if I am reading this right 765 stores and dealer outlets in Canada. Does Canada even have 765 people? Do each need their own big box store? I think I’ve located Circuit City’s folly.
Circuit City will provide more details in the near term about the plans for the liquidation of the stores and other assets, the status of the company’s Web site and firedogSM services operations, the status of its Canadian operations and plans for the company’s bankruptcy proceedings.
Anyone looking to pick up some floorspace or the Firedog service? Me neither.
