It looks like we may not be seeing Philips new 21:9 HDTV in the United States at all. A spokesperson for the company indicated that the this TV would never head stateside.
The television incorporates Amblight technology around its borders and is said to be the world’s first cinema-proportioned LCD TV, meaning you can watch movies at their traditional aspect ratio rather than those formatted to fit your everyday television screen. The television is expected to head to select European countries (Germany, Belgium, the UK, and France) this Spring for a price tag around 3,400 Euros.
Philips has started to not release the majority of its better products on US soil. This television just adds to the ever-growing list of things we’d like to buy, but the company doesn’t make available to US customers.
One reason may be the ever-dropping worth of the dollar. While this television is 3,400 Euros in Europe, that would make it close to $7k in the United States. Would you buy one of these at a $7k price tag?
