So far, we’ve had plenty of drama with the digital television transition. Washington D.C. has delayed, un-delayed, then delayed (pending a vote) the transition. If you’ve been reading Gadgetell, you know what we’re talking about.
Best Buy is joining the party by letting everyone know that the transition is still scheduled for February 17th. Televisions in Best Buy will show an ad talking about “Blackout Prevention Day.” The video will run two times every hour.
If the ad doesn’t get to the shoppers, an audio message will be read over the store’s PA systems to tell the customers about the transition.
If somehow the people in the store don’t notice the ads or the audio, Best Buy employees will wear t-shirts with the words “Blackout Prevention.” Handouts with information will be put in bags and handed out to to customers. This effort might get that last few percentage of Americans ready for the change. If not, maybe they should run this kind of ad scheme in supermarkets.
