Sir Howard Stringer is about to get a new title. He is already Sony’s CEO and will become Sony’s president when current president Ryoji Chubachi departs from the position on April 1st.
Sony has had its share of trouble these days and Stringer thinks this move will help the overall nimbleness of the company. “We do not need a bureaucratic layer,” said Stringer. With Stringer as both CEO and president he will have direct access to his team and will be able to make decisions in a more efficient manner.
Soon-to-be-former President Chubachi will stay on the board. He was in charge during Sony’s big loss last year. Perhaps with this shift in power, Stringer can directly oversee and interact with Sony’s various divisions to bring them a new direction.
