Nokia attempts to compete in app market by opening Ovi Store

Today Nokia has officially opened the doors to its application site, the Ovi Store. Through the Ovi Store, users will have the ability to download mobile applications, like games, videos, podcasts and more. This is the company’s attempt to stay viable in a crowded market and offer similar applications as the iPhone.

The Ovi Store will be usable with 50 different Nokia devices and is starting up with over 20,000 applications. The store will be accessible through the PC as well as the phone’s mobile browser. Nokia has said that about 50 million Nokia cell phone users will have the ability to use the Ovi Store. Users can arrange applications by suggestions, phone combatiability or categories.
