The days leading up the Palm Pre launch has been filled with excitement and more news. In fact, just yesterday we reported that AT&T will also launch the Palm Pre in about a year. Today, Verizon Chief Executive Lowell McAdam stated Verizon will begin to sell the Palm Pre within 6 months, an announcement that generated a lot of buzz in the tech world.
Verizon, even though with excellent coverage, has often been under fire for not offering good, quality phones like AT&T. However, since they have plans to sell one of the most anticipated phones since the iPhone, Verizon will attract many potential Sprint customers to wait just several months until Verizon can start retailing them. Already, Palm shares have gone up by 8.8%, obviously a lot of people are excited, and I am as well. Since I am a Verizon customer, who would love to own an iPhone or Pre, I can’t wait until the Pre comes out just because I may be able to get it (pending shortages, of course). Looking at this from an outside perspective, it makes me glad that people on different networks can enjoy a quality phone without going through the headache of switching carriers.
Verizon didn’t stop there, they kept bringing the news as McAdam announced a new version of the Blackberry Storm, as well as a new Blackberry called the Tour. The second part of Verizon’s announcement upped RIM’s stock by 3.9%. In addition, Verizon had one last announcement: they would be selling Motorola phones equipped with Google Android. The whole idea is so Verizon is not fully dependent on any one phone being the center of their lineup. With the Pre, the new storm, and new Motorola phones, they will have a vast lineup of unique phones.
AT&T has had the upperhand with exclusive rights to the iPhone for a long time now, but it seems Verizon will be right there going head-to-head with AT&T for the top US carrier spot.
