The Asus Eee keyboard is one of those items that is just interesting, an item that I really want to have, but not really sure what I would use it for. That said, it is also one of those items that seem to be followed by more rumor than actual fact.
Just to give a little back history, the Eee keyboard was first unveiled (as a prototype) back in January 2009 at CES and since then we have seen very little. In terms of features, the Eee keyboard is expected to have a 5-inch display with an 800 x 480 resolution off to the right in place of the numeric keypad as well as an Intel Atom N270 processor, 32GB SSD, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth, HDMI-out, microphone in and built-in stereo speakers. As far as the official description, during the unveiling it was described as the “first wireless media center enabled by ultra wideband HDMI.”
In terms of reality, we had once seen a rumor that it was going to be available in June 2009, of course as the calendar is letting us know, June has already come and gone. Now, the release rumor is being revisited once again and is calling for an availability sometime in September or October, in other words — the Fall.
“The company will also launch its Eee Keyboard, which can work as a fully-functional PC as well as a wireless connection hub for multimedia devices, in October, according to industry sources.”
The latest rumored release date comes courtesy of the DigiTimes who are citing an “industry” source. Additionally, the price of the Eee keyboard is expected to be somewhere in the $400 to $500 range.
