If you’re an iPhone user and considering a Palm Pre, the complete absence of a soft keyboard is felt almost immediately. Having to slide the keyboard out seems so 2003. Well fret no more, thanks to this work by Alan Rodriguez you can upgrade your Palm Pre in minutes.
Darn clever is how I’d describe how to activate the soft keyboard. Thanks to the Pre’s gesture area on the screen, the command is clean, easy and looks darn handy. A simple double tap brings up the virtual keyboard along with Palm’s unique “ripple” effect that shows exactly where you’ve touched for visual feedback.
The addition of the virtual keyboard would be a great help to those stepping over from an iPhone. In my time with the Pre, I found it frustrating to be cruising around the net with the phone slid shut only to have to open it now and again. This would have been very handy to me.

Can see what you're typing. This needs a duplicate entry line ABOVE the virtual keyboard so you dont have to keep moving your hands out of the way to see what you just typed. Where is the predictive typing like on the iPhone. I like that dudes wallpaper. Is that a smiley face?
Luey, you're spot on. This 3rd party hack can't change the lack of predictive type and I too found the entry line under the virtual keyboard troubling, but it seems limited as it is shown at 6:17 on the 2nd video with entry above. This isn't Palm's solution, so there is hope to fix these two things.
I believe the wallpaper is the old Mac icon/logo thing. http://tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:kLdXpFJGcXvlLM:http://www.slotsgeek.com/slots/mac/images/MacLogo.jpg

Nope, from what I see it is pretty involved. Perhaps Palm will provide an over-the-air option soon.
I hope. I jus got this phone and realized you can't forward messages. And it has no cam corder. Andy software for those two things?
