There’s a brand new in-air mouse called the “Air Mouse Elite.” What’s different about this model? It’s definitely prettier than previous Gyration mice as it resembles a standard Microsoft or Logitech mouse. There is a modified button layout with additional buttons below the scroll wheel in a circular pattern. The Air Mouse Elite can be used as a regular mouse on a desktop surface or can be picked up to control your mouse cursor in the air.
This is definitely useful for business types giving presentations, but it is also very cool for living room computing. If you hook up a computer to your television (maybe to watch Hulu on a big screen), navigating becomes very easy with something like this. The Air Mouse Elite uses RF with a range of up to 100 feet which means you don’t need to have line of sight to control a computer with it.
Gyration also has “MotionTools” software that will recognize gestures. That could be useful as long as you don’t mind looking like a kung-fu master or wizard while using the device. Gyration has been making in-air mice for a while. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, just think about using a Nintendo Wii remote control as a mouse and you’ve got Gyration’s in-air mouse. Gyration predates that Wii remote by quite a while.
The Air Mouse Elite is coming soon and will retail for $99.99. There is also a mouse and keyboard package that will cost $149.99.
