Blame the iPhone for bringing multi-touch to the popular consciousness. Wacom just introduced its new line of tablets for PCs and Mac with mutli-touch. Wacom products usually are pen-based and are meant for digital artists and designers.
There are several small tablets. The Bamboo Pen & Touch can still use a pen interface for quick notes and scribbling, but also acts as a multi-touch trackpad. At $99, the price is quite reasonable for a tablet with multi-touch. If you want just a pen interface, there is the Bamboo Pen. If you just want a multi-touch trackpad, there is the Bamboo Touch. Both of those devices will cost $69. There is also the $129 Bamboo Craft, a silver variation of the black Pen & Touch. The Craft comes with some extras for digital scrapbookers like a DVD with 26 scrapbooking lessons. Most of the Bamboo line also comes with photo editing software, the exception is the Bamboo Touch. These devices are all 9.8″ x 6.9” in size.
There is also the larger Bamboo Fun. At $199, the silver Fun is much larger at 8.8″ x 13.3” and comes with three photo editing programs: Photoshop Elements 7 for Windows (6 for Mac), Corel Painter Essentials 4, and Nik Color EFex Pro 3.0 WE3 (corrects lighting).
As a user of Wacom tablets, they are sturdy and work well. Pens never require batteries so your work will not be interrupted due to a dead battery.
