DivX TV

At CES 2010, DivX announced a partnership with LG Electronics in which DivX will install their DivX TV technology within LG’s new Blu-Ray players and home theater setups running NetCast Entertainment Access. This new Internet TV platform hopes to become popular in the newly formed department of Internet TV.

DivX TV will provide many sources of entertainment such as Hollywood movies, online videos, digital music services, social networking sites and more. In addition, it is possible to stream videos from your computer over your home network. The nice thing here is that the service can play any video format, which includes their native DivX format. In order to upgrade your current system, whether it is an LG Blu-Ray player or a system with NetCast Entertainment, all you have to do is update to a new firmware version from DivX. The firmware update will not be available until later this year.

As of now, DivX TV boasts nearly 70 channels and a lot of content free from the Internet. The Internet content includes full length movies and TV shows, not just skimpy video clips. You can expect to see content from entertainment sources such as the Associated Press, CNET, DailyMotion, Revision 3, Twitter, TED, and Picasa. I imagine that many other companies will sign on as this service becomes more popular.
