WHDI to be built in to new LG TV’s

WHDI

LG recently announced a partnership with AMIMON that gave them access to some pretty sweet technology. What it’s called is WHDI and what it does is allow 1080p content to be sent from a source to the LG TV over a 5GHz unlicensed band.

So you can wirelessly send video from your laptop to your TV instead of having to deal with those pesky HDMI cables. But the technology is not just limited to laptops, anything that can send video over a network will be able to send it to your TV. Almost like a video-printer.

Before this, LG did have something similar called WirelessHD built-in to some of their HDTV’s. The change most likely took place to allow LG to focus on other things besides updating their WirlessHD but the reason is unclear. Whatever it may be, being able to wirelessly use your TV as a monitor is a pretty sweet deal in my opinion. But there’s no word yet on exactly which models will have this and which won’t but it won’t be long until we do know.
