The new Alex eReader by Spring Design will have access to over 1 million books thanks to their partnership with Google. Users can browse the collection via the Android browser built into the device.
“Our agreement and strategic alliance with Google opens the doors to more readers around the world,” said Dr. Priscilla Lu, CEO of Spring Design. “We are excited to be part of Google’s initiative to digitize and deliver the world’s books and look forward to the markets and opportunities these efforts will open up for readers as well as independent authors.”
The one drawback to the partnership is that Google’s collection is made up of public domain books rather than current best sellers, and as such won’t be much of a selling point to those who aren’t fans of the classics. EPUB format is also supported. This is the same format used by the popular Sony Reader and Barnes and Noble Nook readers.
