Acer recalls laptops due to severe overheating

Acer has announced a recall of over 22,000 laptops due to a major overheating problem. The computers have a defect in the microphone wire beneath the palm rest, which can lead to short circuiting and overheating. In some cases the overheating was severe enough to cause the external casing to show signs of melting.

The affected models are the Acer AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. They were sold between June and October of last year. Acer claims they are also sending out emails to affected customers.

European customers were notified back in October but the company has now decided to expand the recall to the U.S. as well.
