We often hear about how bad the economy is lately, and with that we also often hear about budget cuts. And as much as I hate to say it, the talk of budget cuts almost seems normal now. Except in the case of the Lake County Jail cutting back the inmates Netflix subscription. Yes, it seems that the Lake County Jail was ordering up Netflix for the inmates as a weekend perk. Of course, it was pointed out in that they “weren’t perks for the inmates so much as an activity that helped guards maintain order.”
Either way, they were getting Netflix.
“But the curtain has been dropped on the perk now that the jail’s $35 monthly Netflix subscription has been canceled — a tiny portion of the $2 million in budget cuts that Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran disclosed Thursday.”
Now keep in mind, with the jail or any place that would be showing the movies to large groups there is more to this than just a low-monthly subscription fee. In this case it turns out that hey were paying a $35 monthly subscription fee as well as a $5,000 to $6,000 annual licensing fee.
