Google updates Maps for Android to 4.4, includes Places app

Google updated its Maps for Android application to version 4.4, and one of the main features is its Places app. As soon as you update your Maps app, you should find a Places app in your list of applications. Basically, Places can be used to find POIs, such as restaurants, movie theaters, parks, coffee, bars, hotels, gas stations, ATMs, etc. In case none of the default searches suit your needs, you can add your default search to the main page in the Places app.

If you search for a restaurant, the results will list pricing, reviews, parking, menu links, business hours, directions, and distance. I tried using the Places app after updating my Maps app and it worked well using the GPS to find my location and display results of restaurants nearby. Unfortunately for users running Android 1.5, version 4.4 is supported only by devices running Android 1.6 or higher.
