Regardless of how much you like the ability to both send and receive calls from within your Gmail inbox, it is hard to argue with this number — 1,000,000. According to Google, that is how many phone calls were made during the first 24 hours of the feature coming available. Interestingly enough, that number was accomplished during a roll-out. Me personally, I did not even have a chance to make a call within that initial 24 hour time period. With numbers like that, it is no wonder why Google was rolling that out as opposed to turning it on in mass. And for those who missed it, check the Chat section in Gmail and you will notice that you can now send (and receive) voice calls which are free (at least till the end of the year) to the US and Canada as well as being very affordable internationally.
