Spam Security researchers say the Rustock botnet has ended its experimenting with transport layer security. It’s believed the botherders tried it as a way of hiding their activity but decided the burden it placed on bandwidth and processing speed was too great. The botnet is currently responsible for over 40% of the world’s spam volume, most of it pharmaceutical spam hawking the fake prescription drugs sold by the infamous Canadian Pharmacy group. The Russian Mafia is the group’s suspected ringleader.

By the way, in case you are ever the least bit tempted to buy prescription drugs from a Canadian Pharmacy site, DON’T. As mentioned above the drugs are fake, manufactured in India and China, and not regulated at all. There’s no telling what kinds of things end up in the phony pills. While the FDA says so far there have been no reports of any deaths or serious illnesses caused by the drugs, they also issued an advisory warning U.S. citizen’s to stay away from the sites.
