Google, in a well-timed response to Apple TV, has promised the release of their television service coming stateside this fall. According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, consumers will now be able to have complete internet access throughout televisions completely free. For those of us who are not savvy with technology, this could actually be some very exciting news. Now for those of us who have our computers plugged directly into our TV monitors and live through torrents, this isn’t very much news at all. I digress…
Schmidt went on to state that Google will work together with content providers but will not likely begin developing content on their own. It seems as though some major television manufacturers have already shown interest in Google’s newest market expansion venture. Sony has said that it would allow Google TV onto its television sets while Samsung is currently looking into the service to make a final decision on the matter.
Google seems to be doing a fine job making its move into different markets unlike some companies (ehhmm Microsoft). But in all seriousness, I can’t wait to see what all of this competition between Apple, Google and Microsoft will boil down to when all is said and done. We can all rest assured that the consumer will more than likely wind up winning.
