I am a big fan of doing most thing in my pajamas. This now includes grocery shopping via the Peapod app available on iOS, Android and even webOS devices. The app is free, but the groceries won’t be.
The app is pretty simple, much like the online site. I can search for foods, use my last order as a guidepost to create a new one, see all my past purchases or just one particular one. I can even hit “guess my order” which will automatically fill in my frequent purchases. Pretty nifty.
It gets better. I can look at specials, but it’s smarter than that. I can look at a list of “My Specials” that highlights past purchases I’ve made that are on sale now. Just like on the website, users can choose a delivery time that suits them.
I can search for products or if I happen to have it on hand, I can scan the barcode. Simply click “scan” and line the barcode up with the on screen targets – and your product is hopefully found. Using this feature caused the app to crash a few times but overall it worked OK.
I find shopping online or on my phone lowers my grocery bill. I am not tempted to buy stuff I don’t really need and the cart is not subject to whether I am feeling hungry as I stroll through the aisles. Roaming around my kitchen is much easier with the iPhone, ticking off items as opposed to running back to a laptop.
I’d rate this app 5/5. It gets the job done quickly and without unnecessary steps.
