Earlier today Google officially unveiled the Nexus S with Android 2.3, the Android 2.3 SDK and now it looks like current Nexus One users are already getting the Gingerbread update. I guess if nothing else, this quick roll-out of Android 2.3 is a perk of having a handset with a pure-Google experience and in turn this should show those considering a purchase of a Nexus S that they will be taken care of in terms of future upgrades. Bottom line, while many other Android smartphones are still trying to get Android 2.2, those on the Nexus One are staying one step ahead with an announcement and roll-out all in the same day.
[Update] According to Twitter user @retomeier, the Android 2.3 update is not rolling out, but instead coming in a few weeks.
“Not sure where Engadget is getting their reports. The Nexus One OTA isn’t happening just yet – should be coming in a few weeks.”
