Earlier today Google announced it’s newest nexus phone the, Nexus S from Samsung. The phone will be the first Gingerbread smartphone with all the hardware bells and whistles to accompany the new OS version’s features. It all sounds similar to how the Nexus One was launched. There is one big difference between the Nexus One and the Nexus S: how the phones are sold.
The Nexus One was sold online only through Google. Google has learned from that effort, and will be selling the Nexus S through retail giant Best Buy. Starting December 16, Best Buy will carry the latest and greatest Android smartphone. Like the Nexus One, you can buy the Nexus S unlocked without contract for $529, or for $199 with a two-year contract with T-Mobile. For UK users, the phone will go on sale on December 20 at Carphone Warehouse, though the price hasn’t been announced.
This time prospective buyers will be able to actually feel the device, and possibly even play with it before buying. With any luck, the Nexus S will fare better than the Nexus One in sales. We all know how poorly the Nexus One did in terms of sales, which some attributed to the fact that the phone was only available online where the average buyer wasn’t able to hold the phone and get a feel for it.
