I’m pretty Time awards the prestigious Person of the Year plum to groups of people or community. That’s why a few years ago, the Time Person of the Year was YOU, meaning us – the Internet population, and not the inventor of the Internet. I don’t know, but this thought came into my mind when I read about Zuckerberg named as the Person of the Year, why not Facebook and the millions of Facebook members which can be collectively known as the Facebook Community. What gives?
Don’t get me wrong here but I’m a big fan of Zuckerberg and the story of how we created Facebook. I also believed that Facebook really did change the way we live our lives, as what Time announced when Zuckerberg was named the Person of the Year. Quoting Time Magazine:
For connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them; for creating a new system of exchanging information; and for changing how we all live our lives, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is TIME’s 2010 Person of the Year.
Yes, there’s no question that we owe the creation of Facebook to Zuckerberg. But its popularity should be owed by Zuckerberg to us – the Facebook community for making it a vibrant ecosystem of humans worldwide – interacting, communicating, transacting businesses, sharing silly thoughts about their everyday lives.
But then, who are we to question Time Magazine. It’s too late to say our disagreement to their choice, so we might as well congratulate Mr. Mark Zuckerberg for creating a network that added new meaning to our lives.
How about you folks? Do you have qualms about TIme Magazine naming Mr. Zuckerberg as Time Person of the Year? Please share your thoughts with us by leaving a comment.
