We all know that tomorrow, March 11, is the launch of the iPad 2. What we didn’t know until today was exactly how we can get our hands on the successor to the magical tablet. Those hoping to get the iPad 2 early in the day might be disappointed, as will those who wanted to get an iPad on launch day without having to wait in line.
Today Apple announced that the iPad 2 will be on sale at all US Apple stores tomorrow at 5 p.m. local time. That doesn’t mean the lines won’t start before then, but you won’t be able to actually buy the device until that time. That’s great news for those who have to work and can’t afford or don’t want to spend all Friday in line. If you choose to buy the iPad 2 in store, Apple will help you set up the device before you leave, so you can play with the tablet immediately.
If you’re hoping to skip the lines by going to Best Buy, Walmart, Target, AT&T or Verizon stores, don’t be too sure. All those stores will follow the same rules and start selling the iPad 2 at 5 p.m. local time as well.
For those who are a bit more patient but don’t want to wait in line, the iPad 2 will go on sale on Apple’s website tomorrow at 1 a.m. PST. So those of us on the east coast will have to wait until 4 a.m. to ensure they’re not all sold out by the time we wake up. Still, it’s better than waiting in line, right?
