Fring group chat on iOS

Fring has found an interesting way to combat FaceTime on iOS: by letting users video chat with more than just one person. Skype-owned Fring is beta testing a version of it’s iOS app that will allow up to four people one a single video chat.

Group video chat isn’t currently available in the App Store version of Fring, but you can try to get in on the action. You can sign up on Fring’s blog to gain access to the beta. Of course, your friends will likely have to be in the beta to use group chat as well. The chat itself simply splits the screen into four, with you on the bottom left and three friends surrounding your video. You might not get the full screen video you get with FaceTime, but having two extra devices on the chat should make up for that.

So, if you really want group video chat on your iOS device over WiFi or 3G, sign up over at Fring. Or you could just wait for the full release of the app, whenever that is.
