Sprint is holding an event today that focuses on making the mobile phone industry more eco-friendly. As part of that event, the carrier officially revealed the Samsung Replenish. It will go on sale for $49.99 on a two-year contract on May 8. The $10 monthly premium data charge that Sprint has instituted on all smartphones is being waived for the Samsung Replenish.
In addition to the announcement of the Replenish, Sprint will sell the Samsung Restore without a contract for $79.99 to Virgin Mobile customers on April 18.
So what makes the Replenish so green? Sprint’s CEO Dan Hesse said the phone is made “with more than 80 percent recyclable materials.” The Replenish will also get a rechargeable solar battery cover on May 8 for $29.
Here are the specs for the Samsung Replenish.
- 2.8-inch QVGA display
- Android 2.2
- 2MP camera
- Built-in Wi-Fi and GPS
- MicroSD card slot that supports cards up to 32GB
Despite the minimal specs, the Replenish is a smartphone. It will require one of Sprint’s Everything Data plans which start at $69.99 a month.
