It’s been a long time coming, and now the time has finally arrived. Owners of the Motorola Xoom can now finally install a custom ROM onto their tablet. Team Tiamat has released their first custom ROM, called Motorola Xoom 1.0 Deodexed.
The ROM brings with is some new features including root access with SU and superuser, WiFi ad-hoc, and USB mass storage. If those don’t get you excited, maybe the modified Flash Player might be more exciting as it will let Xoom owners watch Hulu on their tablet. You’ll also get SIP and SMS capabilities turned on so you can call and send/receive messages on the tablet, assuming you have a plan for it.
The ROM is based off the Android 3.1 image rolled out to Verizon Xoom owners. So, even if you don’t want the other features you’ll be able to get Android 3.1 without having to wait for the rollout. It could mean that you won’t be able to get access to Google Movies, but at least you get access to Hulu for a time, right? Or you could just wait for Google and Motorola to rollout Android 3.1 to everyone. But, if you’re impatient, head over to XDA developers to get your copy of the ROM.
