Verizon will begin sending out data usage alerts this week

Today marks the first day of Verizon’s switch to limited data plans for new customers. New customers now how the option of signing up for plans offering 2GB, 5GB and 10GB of data each month. Moderate data users will likely not exceed their limit and will be spared of any overage charges. Verizon still wants to keep customers informed on where they stand in data usage, so it will begin sending out free text message alerts this week.

Verizon customers will get a text message whenever they consume 50 percent, 75 percent, 90 percent, 100 percent or 110 percent of their monthly data plan. They can also choose to turn off alerts for using 50 and 75 percent of data.

As an alternative, customers can register for My Verizon and choose to get email alerts sent to three email addresses.

Verizon also reminds customers that they can monitor data usage by downloading the data uses widget, using the data usage calculator and dialing #DATA on their smartphone.
