Qualcomm is the maker of all those Snapdragon processors that seem to be in nearly all modern smartphones these days. Qualcomm has a nice foothold in the mobile phone industry and it is looking to innovate even more. Qualcomm announced that it has purchased a portion of a company named GestureTek. One of GestureTek’s specialties deals with gesture controls in mobile devices. Do you see where this is going?

Qualcomm now owns certain assets that will help the company bring gesture controls to its current and upcoming Snapdragon processors. Qualcomm did not buy assets pertaining to GestureTek’s technology involving gesture controls for public displays or other non-mobile assets.

Be on the lookout for tablets with gesture controls in the future. Let’s hope this new technology doesn’t raise the prices of tablets beyond the typical $500 mark. As interesting as gesture controls are, bringing them to tablets and smartphones seem as frivolous as 3D. I’d love to be proven wrong though.
