While those of us in the US are still waiting for an official release of any Galaxy S II phone, Samsung has announced a big milestone for the smartphone line. Before releasing the GalaxyS II in the US Samsung has announced that it has sold more than 5 million phones already.
The Galaxy S II was first released just two months ago this past May. In case you’ve forgotten, the phone sports a 4.3-inch screen, running Android 2.3.3 with TouchWiz 4.0, all powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core CPU. It has a great 8MP rear-facing camera capable of 1080p video. The only downside to the phone’s specs is the 800×480 screen resolution that lags a bit behind the qHD screens we’re seeing on many other recent phones.
The numbers are fairly impressive for Samsung, seems like this is a worthy successor to the Galaxy S line. That number could increase a lot fairly soon as the US release is rumored to be sometime in August. Given Samsung’s tendency to get phones out on every carrier out there Samsung could sell quite a few phones in the US.
