Google has announced the latest improvements in terms of the mobile version (web app) for Gmail. This update improves the ‘pull down to refresh’ functionality as well as adds some higher resolution icons. The ‘pull down to refresh’ is simple enough and is specifically noted as working on all iOS and Playbook devices. The change for this means that you will see the ‘pull down to refresh’ when you first pull down on the page and that will then update to ‘release to refresh’ when it is ready.
Next up are the high resolution icons. The new icons are said to be for those using the Gmail web app on an iPhone 4 and should make “Gmail for mobile sharper.” And while this bit did not add any extra functionality — as an iPhone 4 user I do have to say that it will be appreciated.
Lastly, the transitions. According to Google, when you tap a conversation, tap back to the inbox, go to the menu or go back, ” the view will slide left or right.” This is noted as being a “quick, small indication” that makes the view change “feel smoother.”
