Samsung Galaxy S II on Newegg

Sick of waiting for AT&T and T-Mobile (along with other carriers) to announce their versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II? Well, now you don’t have to wait, if you’re willing to pay for the unlocked phone.

Newegg has started selling the Samsung Galaxy S II unlocked for $650, which is apparently $150 less than it would normally cost. The phone you get is GSM, compatible with both AT&T and T-Mobile for voice. If you pop in an AT&T SIM card you’ll get 3G data, while the phone will only support EDGE on T-Mobile. So this would probably only be a great idea for AT&T users, unless you don’t mind the slower EDGE speeds.

The Galaxy S II is said to be coming to each major US carrier sometime this month. Like the Galaxy S before it, each of those phones will be carrier modified, unlike this unlocked version. So, if you don’t want to wait, don’t like carrier branding, and don’t want a ton of crapware, this might be your best option for the Galaxy S II. It is a bit expensive, but I guess you have be willing to pay a lot for getting a phone before the carriers bring it over and load it with useless apps.
