NYPD forms social media unit, will begin monitoring social networks for evidence of crimes This should probably go without saying, however it is never a good idea to brag about a crime that you have committed. Of course, that being said, its probably a smarter idea to not commit the crime in the first place. But as we often see, that rules is broken quite often. Anyway, those who commit crimes in the fine city of New York and like to brag online using social networks such as Facebook and/or Twitter — well, you may want to reconsider as it seems the NYPD has recently formed a new unit that will specifically track and monitor social networking sites. According to Kevin O’Connor, who (according to the NY Post) is “one of the department’s online and gang gurus” they will be looking for just about everything to include “troublesome house parties, gang showdowns and other potential mayhem.”
