The iPhone 5 is still in the realm of speculation with the announcement hopefully coming soon, but that hasn’t stopped Case Mate. For a short time earlier today Case Mate had some pictures of cases that it would be making for the iPhone 5.
The cases showed a slimmer iPhone with tapered edges, not unlike the current iPod touch. Case Mate had a total of seven designs for cases for the next iPhone, though the page is gone now. The page now says that Case Mate is expecting the next iPhones to come in the next few weeks. The case maker is predicting that Apple will announce both an iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 around the same time as MacWorld Beijing in October. The screen on the iPhone 5 will be four inches as we’ve heard before, with an elongated home button, at least that what Case Mate is saying now. The iPhone 4S will have the same internals including the A5 chip and 8MP camera, but will look more like the current iPhone 4, presumably so users will have a choice between 3.5- and 4-inch screens.
If this is actually what the iPhone 5 will look like, I cannot wait for it to come out. The iPhone 4 feels a bit cramped with the current screen size, and the curved back would be more comfortable to hold. The only downside would be in using the volume buttons as a shutter for the camera in the phone, but that can be worked around. I need this phone, hopefully AT&T will again allow for early upgrades, I’m not sure I want to wait even the few months to be eligible.
