Google announces multiple sign-in and updated preferences for Gmail on mobile devices

Google has once again made some improvements in terms of Gmail on mobile devices. The newly added features include support for multiple sign-ins, mobile-specific signatures and a vacation auto-responder. Of course, many will realize what each of these do given they are al similar to features currently found on the regular desktop web based versions of Gmail.

But that aside, the support for multiple sign-ins will allow you to sign into multiple Gmail accounts. To do this, simple click on the account switcher which you will see at the bottom of the thread list. And nicely done, Google has also added updated URL’s along with this, which means that you can now have a separate bookmark for each sign-in.

Next up is the mobile specific signature, which really just means that you now have another method of sending email from a mobile device with a crazy signature that lets people know you sent that email from a mobile device. Of course, we all really know that these signatures are nothing more than excuse for poor grammar and spelling, but hey, many (including myself) seem to like them.

And last up is the vacation auto-responder which should come in handy should you be heading out for vacation only to realize that you failed to set your out of office message before you left. And while this is nice to have available by way of mobile devices, we cannot help but think that most people who will use this and need this probably travel with a laptop anyway and will not get as much use. Still, it is a nice feature to have for those really trying to get away without a full laptop in hand.
