Asus Padfone

Along with the announcement of the Transformer Prime, Asus chairman Jonney Shih revealed some release information about the Asus Padfone. Asus expects to have the product available during the first quarter of 2012. Shih confirmed the Padfone will ship with Ice Cream Sandwich. The Padfone hasn’t undergone testing with mobile carriers, so only time will tell if that release window is pushed back.

The Padfone was announced in May. It’s essentially a tablet that has a dock on its backside that can house a smartphone. The phone acts as a battery extender and it gives the tablet access to the phone’s mobile network. You will even be able to take phone calls on the Padfone. The tablet becomes a giant phone basically. The tablet has access to everything the phone possesses, so there won’t be any need to move around individual data.

There are still a lot of questions to be answered about the Padfone. We’ll just have to be patient.
