Those who may have been hoping to check out Google Wallet when Verizon (finally) releases the Samsung Galaxy Nexus may be in for a bit of bad news as the service is going to be blocked. Yup, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will not be compatible with Google Wallet. The details of this come by way of a recent ComputerWorld report which reads rather simply as;
“A Google spokesperson confirms to me that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will not include Google Wallet — and that the choice was made by (you guessed it) Verizon. The carrier, as you may recall, has been working on its own NFC-based payment service for some time now; the decision may or may not be related.”
And in an effort to bring a silver lining to this post, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will receive regular updates direct from Google. In other words, while Verizon is blocking Google Wallet, they are keeping this a true Google experience handset. Well, a true Google experience handset with a few small exceptions that come in the form of a few apps. Of which one of those will be the My Verizon app. And while some will claim bloatware, the My Verizon app is actually worthwhile for those who like to manage their Verizon accounts from their phone.
