It looks like the free ride is over. Twitter has began inserting Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts in its mobile apps for iOS and Android. If you use Twitter’s official website, you’ve most likely encountered Twitter’s brand of advertising before. You can expect the same experience across three platforms now.

A small number of people are going to see Promoted Tweets in their timelines right now. The catch is these tweets will only be from brands they already follow. In time, you’ll see tweets from brands you don’t follow, but may still be relevant to your in some way. The Promoted Tweets will scroll just like regular tweets, so you won’t have to put up with them for very long. You can even swipe them away if you want.

I don’t really think this is such a big deal. Promoted Tweets are barely noticeable on Twitter’s website. I’ve actually followed through on a Promoted Tweet before because it really did appeal to me. If the Promoted Tweets get out of hand, expect the internet to quickly revolt.
