Earlier this week, a Reuters report said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings had been talking with cable companies about the possibility of bundling Netflix with their various packages. Specific cable companies involved in the discussions weren’t named, but we know Comcast is out of the running.
A Comcast spokeswoman told FierceCable to not count on a partnership between Netflix and Comcast.
“We have no plans to offer access to Netflix to our customers through our Xfinity TV service, no matter what device,” the spokeswoman said.”
This isn’t entirely surprising considering Comcast just launched Xfinity Streampix which is somewhat of a competitor to Netflix. Although Streampix is only for Comcast customers, Comcast can provide its customers with shows Netflix can’t. Comcast and Disney have a 10-year agreement whereas Disney, Starz and Sony shows are no longer available on Netflix.
