Android users have showed remarkable patience as they wait for the one and only Instagram app to come to Android. There are a decent amount of Instagram-like apps in Google Play already, but they’ll likely be passed up once the big boy shows up. While we don’t have a release date for Instagram for Android, Instagram’s co-founders told the people at SXSW, it will be available “really soon.” In fact, it’s already undergoing tests.

Instagram on iOS has continued to grow in popularity. Instagram apparently has around 27 million users. That number is sure to swell once the Android crowd gets a hold of it.

What’s more interesting is that Instagram’s co-founder Kevin Systrom said the Android Instagram app is “in some ways, it’s better than our iPhone app.”

Instagram is currently holding down the #12 spot in the Apple App Store’s “Top Free” section. It has nearly 32,000 ratings with an average of 5-stars.
