Coby’s first wave of Android 4.x tablets are set to arrive in stores this month. The company just starting shipping two Ice Cream Sandwich tablets that have 7 and 9.7-inch screens. Sometime this spring, Coby will release four more tablets of the 8, 9 and 10-inch varieties.
Coby’s first 7-inch ICS tablet will sell for $179, and the 9.7-inch model will cost $279. Both devices lack support of Google’s core services such as Google Play and Google Maps. All of your app needs will have to come from GetJar instead.
The basic specs for each device includes a 1Ghz ARM Cortex A8 processor, 4GB to 8GB of internal storage (expandable to 32GB), and 1GB or RAM.
These are mediocre specs compared to what we’ve been seeing lately, but it’s all going to boil down to performance. We’ll see if Coby can make a sizable dent in the tablet market.
