Sony has offered up an updated timeline as to when Xperia device owners can expect to begin receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. And nicely done, that update process will be kicking off relatively soon — in mid-April. Anyway, without any further adieu, those first handsets will include the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. In the case of those three, the process will begin in mid-April and take about 4-6 weeks to reach every device.
Moving on and we learn that the Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will be in the next group. This batch will see the ICS update sometime in the end of May or in early June.
Otherwise, according to further details coming from Sony, this update will not be coming over-the-air. Instead, users looking to get their new dessert will need to use the PC Companion and/or Bridge for Mac. There also will not be any on-device notifications which means you will need to simply pay attention to those timelines and probably do more checking than needed.
Bottom line, this does not sound like an ideal method, however we will take it for what it is — better than not getting an update.
