Facebook added a new life event option for its users today. In addition to being able to highlight the beginnings of relationships or when you got your first car, Facebook now lets you tell your friends when and why you became an organ donor.
Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg co-authored a post on Facebook today explaining how there are over 114,000 people in need of an organ transplant in the United States. The pair believe that if more people openly share their donor status, others who have been holding out will become donors as well.
Facebook has made it easy to post your donor status on your Timeline along with any comments you may have on why you became a donor. If you’re not a donor, Facebook also provides a link to the appropriate website so you can register to become an organ donor in your state.
