According to Symantec’s annual Internet Security Threat Report, religious websites contain up to three times as much malware compared to porn sites. Symantec found that the average number of security threats on religious websites was roughly 115 — leaps and bounds beyond the 25 for adult sites. In addition, the report revealed that only 2.4 percent of adult websites were infected with malware. So what’s up with porn sites being so…free of infections? Here’s Symantec’s take on things:

“It is interesting to note that websites hosting adult/pornographic content are not in the top five, but ranked tenth,” Symantec said. “We hypothesize that this is because pornographic website owners already make money from the Internet and, as a result, have a vested interest in keeping their sites malware-free; it’s not good for repeat business.”

The report was based on information taken from over 200 countries through the Symantec Global Intelligence Network. Other statistics in the report showed an 81 percent increase in malware from 2010 to 2011, a 41 percent increase in the types of maleware, and a 13.4 percent decrease in spam.
