PayPal originally announced the PayPal Here credit card reader/processor back in mid-March. And well, it looks like they have begun offering the reader to those who placed a request. A “Your PayPal Here is now available” email has recently arrived in my inbox and things seem simple enough. Download either the iOS or the Android app, login with your PayPal account details and follow the prompts to get the Here reader shipped out. That being said, while I had gotten the invitation to get my Here reader, it seems that those who simply download the app may also get a reader sent. Simply put, if you have been waiting for the PayPal Here, you may want to follow one of the links at the bottom of this post.

Otherwise, the PayPal Here is similar to what many of us have already seen with Square. It is a credit card reader and processor. PayPal Here touts itself as allowing you to “get paid anywhere you do business.” It will allow you to accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover and charges a 2.7 percent transaction fee. You can also accept payments from PayPal as well as check using the camera on your smartphone.

Finally, some of the remaining features include the following;

  • Manage and view all your transactions in one place.
  • Charge multiple tax rates.
  • Automatically offer discounts.
  • Set up a simple inventory list – making it easy for you to organize business records.

PayPal Here uses an encrypted card reader and is backed by PayPal’s outstanding risk-management capabilities. It provides secure, reliable, easy transaction processing, with fraud protection for you and your customers.
