Digitimes is reporting that Apple is set to knock off $200 the price of the entire Macbook Air line in order to compete with the Intel-sponsored and endorsed Ultrabook line of lightweight laptops. Right now an 11″ Macbook Air goes for $999, while the 13″ starts at $1199 and goes all the way up to $1599 with an upgraded 256 GB SDD. This new price is set to launch for the back-to-season in Q3 of 2012.

Intel has invested $300 million and has another $100 million set aside to continue pushing its Ultrabook initiative, and some manufacturers, such as Dell, Acer and HP, have already exceeded their sales expectations.
