We had known this release was coming, but as always, it is nice to see it happened without delay. In this case, that means the Sony Xperia Ion is now available with AT&T. The handset is available direct with AT&T as well as with Sony and also with Best Buy (both retail and online). The price is $99.99, which comes along with the usual two-year agreement.
Otherwise, for those not quite as familiar with the Xperia Ion, this handset is running Android 2.3.7, which is a bit disappointing. That bit aside though, the remaining specs are not all that shabby. The Xperia Ion has a 4.6-inch HD Reality display, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, HDMI, DLNA and a 12 megapixel camera with Exmor R for Mobile. Additionally, the camera can record 1080p HD quality video and the handset is PlayStation Certified for mobile gaming.
Lastly, while the Smart Tags are sold separately, they are compatible. And for those not familiar with the Smart Tags setup, they allow you to “store device function preferences for different locations and situations.” The example given is that you can turn on your GPS and Bluetooth in the car simultaneously with just one tap.
