Coming not so much as a surprise at this point, but further confirmation that the Google Nexus 7 Android tablet will be officially unveiled later today during I/O 2012. We mentioned the report coming from Bloomberg who were citing “two people familiar with the matter” and now it looks like Reuters has received word from an executive within Asus. Of course, for those who have not been following along quite as closely, while this will be a Google Nexus tablet — it is said to be made by Asus. According to the report on Reuters;
“Google Inc will soon unveil a tablet co-branded with Taiwan’s Asustek Computer Inc and priced to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire device, an Asustek executive said on Wednesday.”
Otherwise, further details note that the Nexus tablet is expected to be more competition towards Amazon and the Kindle Fire as opposed to Apple and the iPad. And again, this goes back to my earlier comment about how I am more excited to see what Jelly Bean will have (feature wise) that makes it necessary to demo it on a tablet.
Bottom line here, things look good for an announcement today but truth be told I think the pricing and the availability are going to play an important factor here. For one, after all the rumors there will be quite a bit of disappointment if this doesn’t debut at $199. Not to mention, Google really needs to have this drop today (ASAP) to catch the momentum.
